About The MarketHer

The MarketHer—first a newsletter and now also a website—was born out of a desire to help my peers find new jobs in the wake of mass layoffs at WeWork in fall of 2019.

In the time since, it’s evolved to support others in the marketing world, regardless of whether or not their journeys involved time at WeWork. My goal: to provide a resource for those who identify as female to discover the next step in their careers. In a world where women* still earn $0.82 for every dollar her male counterpart makes, it's up to us to ensure one another succeed.

Networking is powerful, especially in the age of social media, where we can form internet friendships, slide into DMs, and blindly message second-degree connections on LinkedIn. But even though technology has amplified the opportunities for cold outreach and digital networking, the job application process can still feel impersonal. Through The MarketHer, I wanted to bring the human element back in through a more tailored approach.

The roles featured in The MarketHer are carefully curated—opportunities that I’d pass along to a friend or former colleague in good faith. They've come from a mix of sources: DMs from recruiters on LinkedIn, JDs my friends have circulated, direct asks I’ve gotten via email, and so on.

The MarketHer isn't meant to replace any of the more robust job-search sites or take the place of IRL (aka Zoom) coffee dates, but hopefully it can complement them. To start, the roles will focus on jobs in the marketing and communications world, ranging from social media and PR to brand management and digital media.

*Based on Bureau of Labor Statistics data, in 2020, women’s annual earnings were 82.3% of men’s, and the gap is even wider for many women of color.

About Me

At first I was hesitant to put a name to this project, as it wasn’t about wanting credit or attention. But then I figured it might help people trust in The MarketHer if they could identify the real person behind the newsletters. So here we go, with the same template I ask people to fill out when they want to be featured in an issue of the newsletter or on the blog. Submit yourself here!
